Love when he does hot guy stuff! I had an order delivered from Gurney’s and needed to get 2 apple trees and a peach tree planted, so he got the auger out and bore me some planting holes 🕳️🕳️🕳️

I would have loved to buy more mature trees, but it wasn’t in the budget. These young ones are a better start than none at all. It’s all part of actively creating a food forest on our homestead.

I’m grateful for a strong, hardworking, masculine husband who believes in my vision and does all the heavy lifting to make it happen, one step at a time. Plus, it’s super sexy!!!

Our homestead just got even cuter! Yesterday, three adorable ducklings hatched from eggs laid by our own flock. A few weeks ago, my daughters placed a mix of chicken and duck eggs in our incubator, and while the chicks hatched last week, these little ducklings finally made their debut last night! Now, they’re settling into the brooder with their chick friends until they grow big and feathered enough to join the rest of the flock outside.

🍅 Want to double your tomato harvest?? 🍅

This is my proven two-leader pruning method for indeterminate tomato plants, which I’ve used for the past two years to increase yield and improve plant health. By topping the plant early, I encourage two strong main stems (leaders) instead of one, leading to better airflow, double fruit production, and easier management throughout the season.

I also add soil to my tomato plants while they grow to promote additional root growth along the stem, ensuring stronger, healthier plants when it’s time to transplant. Plus, take a peek 👀 inside my basement grow room, where I’m starting all my seedlings—tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and more—until our last frost date arrives and they can be hardened off and moved outside.

Our new motto this year for our homestead is “whatever works!” My husband found this small deer feeder on clearance at Tractor Supply and is using it as an automatic chicken feeder. It has a timer to automatically feed up to 20 seconds, four times a day. Let’s see how the chickens (and ducks) like it…

I love creating little spaces around our homestead where we can sit and relax and watch the animals. It’s going to be so much more relaxing when my garden comes to life!!!

I still have one section left to do once I replace

I still have one section left to do once I replace the weed fabric on that side with quick-plant fabric to match the rest of the tunnel. Having the pre-burned 2 x 18 holes makes it so easy to use the drill auger to have the entire tunnel ready to plant in! I love this spacing for our tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, herbs, etc. I may switch one of the rows to the 4 x 8 spacing during fall/winter for our lettuces, etc!

This will be our second season using the quick-plant fabric from Farmers Friend and it does an amazing job at keeping the grass and weeds away, and my aisles clear. I absolutely recommend it (they are also available in 1 x 18, 3 x 10 & 4 x 8 pre-burned and at various lengths: 12ft, 50ft, 315ft & 525ft).

Now I’m just waiting for our last frost date to pass so I can get this baby filled up with food that will feed many 🌱 This tunnel looks bleak and dreary right now, but soon it’ll be brimming with life 💚
