4 Reasons You Should Have Backyard Chickens

4 reasons you should have backyard chickens

There’s no such thing as having too many chickens, and here are 4 reasons you should have backyard chickens too!

I have too many chickens. Said no one, ever.

When we first moved onto our acre property, chickens were the first thing we got. We couldn’t wait for farm fresh eggs (seriously, they are SO much better than store-bought eggs)! But, along the way, we realized that having a flock of backyard chickens provided so much more than just eggs. We had no idea – until we became chicken owners – that chickens actually make wonderful pets. They have very unique personalities and are incredibly fun to watch. Did you know that hens sing after laying an egg? They do!

Our entire family LOVES our backyard chickens, but since day one, Charleigh has been the most obsessed with them. She’s usually seen with one (or a few) in her arms, sneaks them into her room, and has even tried to put one in her backpack to take to school!

Not only are they fun to have on the farm, but they are also very helpful creatures. They help till the soil in our garden, provide eggcellent fertilizer, and eat all the yucky bugs that try to eat the fruits, veggies and herbs we grow. They are easy to raise and very low maintenance which makes caring for them the perfect responsibility for our kiddos. All 4 of our kids have become so educated about how to properly care for animals and how to reap the rewards.

Are you convinced now that you need some chickens for your backyard?!

If we’ve talked you into it, but you need a bit of guidance getting started, we’ve got you covered!

When we first started our Little Farm in the City, chickens were the very first animals we got. We were in such a hurry for farm fresh eggs that we bought a coop and some baby chicks and rushed into it without really knowing what we were doing. Chickens are very easy to raise, but we definitely learned some things the hard way. Knowing now what we didn’t know then, there’s quite a bit we’d do differently. Several years later, we are confidently raising a flock of 30 chicks, hens & roosters!

In Our Complete Guide to Raising Chickens e-book, we not only teach you everything you need to know about selecting the right breeds for your needs and how to care for baby chicks, pullets, hens and roosters, but we also share our personal experiences so you can learn from our trials and errors. We also cover nutrition, shelter, chicken behavior, and everything in between to help prepare you to successfully raise your own flock of backyard chickens

  1. Its like you read my mind! You seem to know
so much about this, like you wrote the book
in it or something. I think that you could do with a few pics to drive the message home a little bit,
but other than that, this is fantastic blog.

An excellent read. I will certainly be back.
