Brace yourselves, because Iโ€™m about to unveil the fantastic benefits of homemade English Ivy laundry detergent! Get ready to revolutionize your laundry routine and embark on a journey that will leave your clothes smelling delightful and feeling exceptionally clean.

I live on a forest farm and we have prolific English Ivy growing everywhere. Itโ€™s so invasive but I honestly love how beautiful it is. So rather than tear it out, I allow it to continue growing so I can use it to make homemade laundry detergent.

โ€œFrom English Ivy, Jalena?โ€ you ask. Yes! English Ivy has a very high saponin content which makes it soapy when agitated with water. This makes it so perfect as a homemade detergent.

One of my favorite parts about making my own detergent is how cost-effective it is. Sick of splurging on expensive laundry detergents that promise wonders but leave a dent in your wallet? Look no further! With homemade English Ivy laundry detergent, you can save some serious cash. English Ivy is a hardy plant that requires minimal care, so you won’t need to spend a fortune. Plus, you can customize your detergent by adding inexpensive essential oils for a touch of personalization, without breaking the bank.

So not only is it completely FREE to make, but thereโ€™s so many additional benefitsโ€ฆ

This stuff is also environmentally friendly. Let’s start with a splash of green! Homemade English Ivy laundry detergent is a fantastic eco-friendly alternative to commercial products. By creating your own detergent, you can eliminate the need for harsh chemicals, plastic bottles, and excessive packaging. English Ivy is a natural cleanser and can be grown easily in your backyard, making it a sustainable choice for both your laundry and the planet.

Are you or your loved ones sensitive to commercial laundry detergents filled with artificial fragrances and chemicals? Homemade English Ivy detergent is a breath of fresh air! The natural properties of English Ivy make it a gentle option for those with allergies or sensitive skin. Say goodbye to irritations and embrace the soothing effect of this magical plant.

Do your gym clothes (or your sonโ€™s baseball clothes) often smell like a locker room even after washing? Fear no more! English Ivy comes to the rescue with its outstanding odor control properties. The leaves of English Ivy contain saponins, which act as natural surfactants that help break down oils and eliminate stubborn odors. Bid farewell to funky smells and say hello to fresh, clean laundry.

Oh, and who says laundry detergent is only meant for laundry? Homemade English Ivy detergent is a versatile powerhouse! Use it to clean your floors, wipe down surfaces, or even as a stain remover. Its natural cleaning abilities make it a trusty companion for all your household cleaning needs. Say goodbye to cluttered cleaning cabinets and embrace the simplicity of a single, multipurpose solution.

If you love aromatherapy, then this stuff is magic. Why settle for generic scents when you can create your own aromatic wonderland? Hereโ€™s my recipe (if you donโ€™t have English Ivy growing in your backyard, ask a friend or family member who does or lookup somewhere to forage English Ivy near you):

Freedom Forest Farm Homemade English Ivy Laundry Detergent:

  1. Gather 50-60 English Ivy leaves.
  2. Cut them up into smaller pieces, tossing or composting the stems.
  3. Put pieces into pot, add a quart of water and simmer for about 20 minutes.
  4. Transfer to a jar or bowl and let the concoction sit overnight (I place a tea towel over the top).
  5. The following morning, strain into a recycled container (Coffee-mate creamer bottles work great), squeezing the liquid from the leaves.
