Watch us Renovate our Basement & Create a Seed-Starting Grow Room

Our dreary basement is getting a long overdue makeover and we are showing you all of it…

We are renovating our 145-year-old basement and turning it into a seed-starting grow room. Our Spring growing season is quickly approaching and it’s almost time to start a majority of our seeds indoors. We decided this room of the two-part basement would be the best space for our needs because there’s a large sink that we can attach a watering hose to. There’s also a drain in the floor so watering won’t be an issue!

We emptied out the items that the sellers had left, removed all the mildewy ruined cabinets, dusted, pressure-washed and sanitized the walls and floor, and started painting. See the “before” in the video below…

The other part of the basement will soon be renovated into our personal grocery store to hold all of the food we grow and preserve this year.

Make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel to see how the renovation turns out. The boys are downstairs building the shelves as I type this, so it’s coming along quickly, and I cannot wait to show y’all. Pretty soon, I’ll be spending a LOT of time in this room to start all of our seeds indoors before we transplant them into our garden.

Let us know in the comments below how you think this grow room will turn out.

  1. Looking awesome. Glad to see you started wearing a mask. VERY important! Building a new stall sounds good, but remember that you will be ‘cleaning’ the floor with water. Maybe installing a ‘privacy curtain’ which runs on a track might also work without risking water damage to a wood stall. Just an idea.
